Fergi's Holiday Schedule

It all depends on the conditions and the amount of snow if Fergi will be open during the holidays. So keep doing your snow dances and check back regularly for OPENING/CLOSED announcements.

WHEN Fergi has enough snow, it will OPEN over the holiday break. Open for now on January 1: 10 AM - 4 PM. If the conditions allow, we will open January 2-5. Check back daily to determine whether Fergi will be open that day. The snack bar will be closed January 1-2 and will open Friday - Sunday, January 3-5 if the hill opens.

Sometimes we won't know until the morning whether Fergi will open that day. We will do our best to update the website and Facebook page quickly with the status. Remember we are ALL volunteers who keep Fergi operational, even for the website and social media.

Check back regularly to see if we are open each day during the holiday week. Be prepared we might be open one day and closed the next!

Sign Up for Your Member Volunteer Shifts

Remember a requirement of your Eagle Cap Ski Club Membership is you helping with Fergi operations during the season. Every member must volunteer for 4 days during the season. This is how we keep the membership dues affordable.

What is amazing is that we have over 300 members! If every member signed up, Fergi would always have enough individuals each day of operation to run smoothly. We can't open the hill unless we have all the slots filled for the day.

Volunteer Jobs for the 2024-2025 Season

  1. Ticket Booth Sales Person (9:45 am - 2:00 pm) - sell day passes and collect annual membership dues in the ticket booth. Hand out daily ski passes to individuals. Keep track of sales for the day. Remind members to sign up for their member volunteer days. One individual is needed for this duty.
  2. T-Bar Liftie (10:00 am - 4:00 pm) - help individuals and families load on the T-bar. Listen and respond to pertinent radio communication regarding T-bar operations. Communicate to the hill manager if any maintenance needs to occur (e.g. broken Ts, Ts not rebounding, etc.). Assist the hill manager in the morning in making sure bathrooms have toilet paper (restock as necessary), getting fires going in the lodge and voodoo, shoveling snow off decks, and taking out the trash from buildings. Six individuals are needed for this duty each day. This allows this group of volunteers to work together and rotate throughout the day so no one pulls Ts for more than one hour.
  3. Voodoo Watcher (2 shifts; 10:00 am - 1:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm) - ensure the safety of individuals and families exiting the T-bar. This entails watching individuals and families exiting the T-bar and stopping the T as needed. Keep a watchful eye on Ts properly retracting. Communicate with the T-bar liftie regarding stops and starts and to the hill manager if any maintenance needs to occur (e.g. broken Ts, Ts not rebounding, etc.). Listen and respond to pertinent radio communication regarding T-bar operations. One individual is needed per shift.

A total of nine member volunteers are needed each day to open Fergi.

All volunteers report to the hill manager at the beginning of their shift near the T-bar. The hill manager will provide a quick training for everyone and get you set up with radios and other equipment to do your duty for the day.

Something Came Up? Can't Honor Your Member Volunteer Days?

Go back to the sign-up form, log in, and remove your name from the duty. Please provide a minimum 72 hours notice to remove your name off the sign-up form. If under 72 hours, you are responsible for finding a replacement, updating the sign-up form, and letting the hill manager know the changes.

Early Season Closures

If you sign up for days and it is iffy if Fergi will even open and Fergi ends up closing due to conditions, you will need to go back and sign up for new days. Your member volunteer days only count if Fergi is open and you completed your commitment that day.

Annual Member Meeting November 10, 2024

The annual member meeting will occur on November 10. After the fall work day from 10 AM - 3 PM (we will end early this day), we will meet in the Fergi Lodge to gather and learn more about the Fergi Season.

Just so you know, everyone is welcome to attend. This is a chance to meet other Eagle Cap Ski Club members or learn what it takes to become a member. The meeting begins with a board meeting and then the general meeting.

We especially need member input around volunteer work time and special projects, like redeemable recycling items. Please come and provide input. This is a community hill, and it takes a village to keep it operational. They are especially looking to train individuals who would like to learn how to operate the heavy machinery at the ski hill. Another concern is looking for new individuals to step into leadership roles, as our current leadership wants to keep the tradition alive as they begin to age.

This meeting has traditionally been a potluck but with mostly beers and chips as the main feature. Can't wait to see everyone!

Fall Work Days Have Begun

Every Sunday starting October 6 from 10 AM—4 PM, fall work days will happen, no matter the weather. All hands are needed to help get Fergi operational for the upcoming winter season. Remember, Fergi is an all-volunteer-run ski hill. Without volunteers, we would not even have a ski hill. Your spirit shapes the ski runs, builds the lodges, and so much more!

For this season, we need the following duties tackled:

  • Thinning
  • Piling and burning brush
  • Cutting reprod trees (e.g. little trees) on runs - ONE OF THE BIGGEST PRIORITIES! This is an easy task even for kids. All you have to do is use clippers and cut the stem at the very base of the ground.
  • Cutting and stacking firewood for the lodge, voodoo, and ski shack
  • Cleaning the inside and outside of the lodge as well as the windows cleaned
  • Cleaning the inside and outside of the voodoo as well as the windows cleaned
  • Cleaning the inside of the ticket sales booth (lots of dead flies)
  • Bathrooms cleaned
  • Trash picked up around the ski hill
  • Ski runs cleared and opened up

Please check in when you arrive with a hill manager for a specific task for the day. You are responsible for coming prepared for the day (e.g. appropriate clothes, food, water, work gloves, and your own equipment if you have it).

Contact Willy Locke at 541-426-6581 if you have any questions and coordinate cleaning supplies if you plan on cleaning the lodge or voodoo.
