You Made Fergi Special

Thank you for pulling T's, selling tickets, grooming runs, and so much more! Fergi wouldn't be Fergi without you. We rely on volunteers to make Fergi special. We truly appreciate all of you and all you did this season. Thank you!

The Season Ends with A Powder Day

The last day of the season was another magical day. The 18 inches had finally settled and made skiing off-groomed runs fun. Young, old, and in-between showed up in fun costumes and cheer to celebrate the last day on the hill.

Fergi Fest is on April 6

It will be hard not to shed a few tears on Saturday, April 6. The 2023-2024 season felt short and we wish we had a few more days on the hills. We all can't believe another season is coming to a close on our little ski hill. Thanks to everyone who made the season a great one!

Fergi Fest is always a good time no matter the conditions. So, come join us for the last day of the season!

Wear your most festive ski outfit. We think the more sparkles and shimmer on your ski outfit the better.

The hill will be open from 10 am to 4 pm as usual. The snack bar will be open and might even stay open a smidgen longer than usual.

Sometime in the afternoon (around 1:00 PM) we will get organized and put together the usual fun Fergi Fest activities like ski golf and downhill ski races (weather and participant dependent). Listen for the hill managers to start making announcements around the T-bar for which event and age group is happening at the top of the hill. Just let them know if you want to participate. It is all for fun and bragging rights!

After the T-bar shuts down, stay and enjoy the live music at the lodge and dance the night away in your ski/boarding boots. If you want, bring a dish or goodies to share later in the evening while we enjoy the music and the apres experience of Fergi.

One-of-a-kind Fergi Fest mugs will be available to purchase to remember the season. They are $30. Proceeds will go to the Eagle Cap Ski Club. Bring cash or a check to purchase one.

First-timer tip - if you plan on staying until it gets dark, bring a flashlight, extra water, and an extra warm layer. Don't forget to return your season rentals as well!

Start Returning Your Season Rentals

Season rentals can be returned to the ski shop whenever Fergi is open. The shop will also be open on Sunday, April 7 after Fergi Fest for returns. We will have a master list of all the gear that has gone out this year in the shop, so if you return gear we are not in the shop:

  1. Find your name and check what gear you are returning
  2. Then, check your name off the list.

After April 7th, gear can be returned to Adrianne Gass house in Joseph. There will be a list in the woodshed for you to check your name off when you return things, just like last year. Call Adrianne if you need more information (e.g. her home address) at 530-318-4710. Please return all gear by May 1. This helps us inventory gear, repair gear and order new gear before the next season. Thank you all for a short but sweet season!

Another Great Day of Ski School

Another big thank you to Enterprise-Joseph Lions Club for hosting ski school again! 7th graders and up from Enterprise Schools had the opportunity to experience fresh snow on a beautiful spring day in March. Thanks to all the volunteers who made the days special and taught kids to ski and board.

School Ski Day a Hit with Local Kids

Thanks to the Enterprise-Joseph Lions Club for sponsoring ski school for Wallowa, Joseph, and Seventh Day Adventist middle and high school students on February 29. Students were outfitted with ski and snowboarding equipment, provided lunch, and taught how to ski and snowboard for the day.  It just happened to snow all day this year on February 29 so the snow conditions were quite perfect for learning how to ski and board. Thanks to all the volunteers who came to patrol, operate the hill, serve food, and teach lessons. We heard lots of young people sharing with us the best way to spend the school day!

Sign Up for Your Member Volunteer Shifts

Remember a requirement of your Eagle Cap Ski Club Membership is you helping with Fergi operations during the season. Every member must volunteer for 4 days during the season. This is how we keep the membership dues affordable.

What is amazing is that we have over 300 members! If every member signed up, Fergi would always have enough individuals each day of operation to run smoothly. We can't open the hill unless we have all the slots filled for the day.

Volunteer Jobs for the 2023-2024 Season

  1. Ticket Booth Sales Person (9:45 am - 2:00 pm) - sell day passes and collect annual membership dues in the ticket booth. Hand out daily ski passes to individuals. Keep track of sales for the day. Remind members to sign up for their member volunteer days. One individual is needed for this duty.
  2. T-Bar Liftie (10:00 am - 4:00 pm) - help individuals and families load on the T-bar. Listen and respond to pertinent radio communication regarding T-bar operations. Communicate to the hill manager if any maintenance needs to occur (e.g. broken Ts, Ts not rebounding, etc.). Assist the hill manager in the morning in making sure bathrooms have toilet paper (restock as necessary), getting fires going in the lodge and voodoo, shoveling snow off decks, and taking out the trash from buildings. Six individuals are needed for this duty each day. This allows this group of volunteers to work together and rotate throughout the day so no one pulls Ts for more than one hour.
  3. Voodoo Watcher (2 shifts; 10:00 am - 1:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm) - ensure the safety of individuals and families exiting the T-bar. This entails watching individuals and families exiting the T-bar and stopping the T as needed. Keep a watchful eye on Ts properly retracting. Communicate with the T-bar liftie regarding stops and starts and to the hill manager if any maintenance needs to occur (e.g. broken Ts, Ts not rebounding, etc.). Listen and respond to pertinent radio communication regarding T-bar operations. One individual is needed per shift.

A total of nine member volunteers are needed each day to open Fergi.

All volunteers report to the hill manager at the beginning of their shift near the T-bar. The hill manager will provide a quick training for everyone and get you set up with radios and other equipment to do your duty for the day.

Something Came Up? Can't Honor Your Member Volunteer Days?

Go back to the sign-up form, log in, and remove your name from the duty. You must give a minimum 72 hours notice to remove your name off the sign-up form. If under 72 hours, you are responsible for finding a replacement, updating the sign-up form, and letting the hill manager know the changes.

Early Season Closures

If you sign up for days it is iffy if Fergi will even open and Fergi ends up closing due to conditions, you will need to go back and sign up for new days. Your member volunteer days only count if Fergi is open and you completed your commitment that day.

Celebrate Matt Harshman's 60th Birthday

Come hear Matt Harshman and friends play music from 6-9 pm on December 21 at the lodge as he celebrates his 60th birthday and the winter solstice. The hill will NOT be open this day. Please bring a dish to share (this is a potluck) as we enjoy the longest night of the year with some music cheer.
